FRANZ KLINE AT THE CEDAR

Came across these amazing Arthur Swoger shots in the Whitechapel Gallery programme of Kline's 91 exhibition.
If I could get in a Tardis and go anywhere in the world at any time, I think it would be sitting at bar of The Cedar Tavern talking existential bollocks to arguably the greatest and most underrated painter of the 20th century.
I visited The Cedar Tavern on my first trip to NYC in 1992. It was nothing like this.

  1. The photo with the man in the foreground of Kline, wearing a cap and putting out his smoke is my father, Tom Young.
Kline is lifting his drink. They were friends and shared studio space at the time. My dad died this year in New Orleans. Is there is a higher resolution version of this image available?
